Customer Review: Simply, not worth the cost.
This is a very expensive book for something that looks like it was put together in someone's basement. The interior pages look like they were photocopied using a mediocre black and white copier. This obviously doesn't work well when you are trying to show people what their camera can do. I'm used to paying good money for a full color, hardcover book and this book is the complete opposite. Secondly, the book doesn't really go beyond describing and re-describing the camera's functions (all of which are explained in the camera's manual & available on Canon's website). I was hoping it would go into more detail. For example, instead of telling me that I need to turn this lever to this mode to take such a picture, I thought the book would explain why I would want to set the camera in this mode versus this one for a particular kind of picture. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this mode? What other modes might work just as well? Et cetera. The book does not answer these questions. I find the book to be a rehash of the Canon manual with lots of repetition probably used to beef the book up physically versus filling it with quality content. I've had my G2 for about a year now and I think the best way to learn using it is to experiment. Learn about the different settings in the camera's manual and then try them out with flash, without flash, selecting different white balance, manual vs. auto focus. That's the only way you are really going to find out what the amazing G2 can do. And, if you still feel like you need a book to hold your hand through the process try getting a general, less expensive digital camera guide that will go into more detail.
Customer Review: Very good overview, combined with techniques
A very helpful and usable manual. Even tho it's produced rather cheaply (spiral-bound, B&W), it really gives an excellent short course in photography as it relates to the feature-packed PowerShot G2. The manual that comes with the G2 is very well written, but doesn't really go into detail about how to get the pictures you really want, especially under difficult situations. This book definitely fills the gap. The camera was a bit intimidating to me, at first. Now it's not. I probably will print the PDF out in color, however. That's my major gripe.

I know a fair amount about cameras. I have large expensice cameras and have carried a Canon powershot sd550 7.1 megapixel which is older and took great photos. Have enlarged many of the photos from the sd550 and they look great. I dont really want to carry the larger camera because of the great quality with the smaller cameras and the ease of their use. I wanted the wider lens on the sd 880. It is great! better than the 550 since the wider lens is good for outdoors and architecture photos.Great movies also. Got the 4gig sdhc card from amazon for like $18 which was a deal. I was looking at the sd990 which is over 14 megapixels bout it does not have the wide lens. This none is great.

Customer Review: GREAT Point & Shoot
When we were ready to spend the money on a new digital camera, I looked at everything, but I kept coming back to the Canon PowerShot series. I think they are by far the best point and shoot cameras for the money. Our first digital camera was mostly plastic, and in shopping around, I found that many cameras were the same. In contrast, the SD800 feels solid and well-built. After a year of use and almost 2000 photos, it is no worse for the wear, except for some scratches. I think the only thing I would change is the camera's finish. It is beautiful when new, but it really shows every little scratch. It has a large, bright LCD screen AND a viewfinder. It uses a lithium-ion battery pack, and this was a MUST for me. I can't stand cameras that use AA batteries (or some other disposable battery). They are always dead when you need your camera. I've tried the NiMH rechargeables, and they just don't last long enough, so they are also dead when you need them. This Li-Ion battery is awesome. It lasts an incredibly long time between charges, and it charges faster than the Li-Ion battery in our old camera. It charges outside of the camera in a very compact charger, so if you want to keep a backup battery ready, you can. I did just that with our previous camera, but so far we haven't needed one with this camera. I charge the battery just before events at which I know we will want to use the camera, and it lasts so long on a charge that between those occasions it is always ready. The wide angle lens is a great feature. I am consistently able to get shots that other people can't get because they can't back up far enough. Perhaps my favorite feature about this camera is the control it gives you. While it is great in full auto mode (which is why you buy a point and shoot), it also offers some very useful scene modes, and it allows for manual adjustment of several settings. For example, you can adjust the exposure by up to 2 stops up or down, in 1/3 stop increments. I looked at several other PowerShot models, such as the SD850 and SD900, but I liked the layout of the controls on this camera the best. We have been very pleased with the SD800. It is fast, reliable, and takes beautiful shots. I have been pleasantly surprised with some of the shots I have been able to get with such a compact camera. I would personally love to have a digital SLR, but my wife wants something she can easily carry in her purse, and SLRs are too expensive. I have really enjoyed the creative control that this little camera allows. Perhaps the most amazing part was the price. I couldn't believe I was able to get a camera of this quality, packed with all these features, for under $200 on Amazon. That's a great deal on a great camera!

EXCELLENT CAMERA BUT I STILL GET MOTION BLURS WHILE SET ON 800 AND NO FLASH. IT SEEMS THAT OUR GRANDSON KEEPS MOVING AND I WAS HOPING THAT IT WOULD CAPTURE BETTER. I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA FOR OUR 30 DAY EUROPEAN TRIP, USED IT WITH A 4G SD CARD, AND IT HELD ALL THE IMAGES AND VIDEOS FOR THE ENTIRE TRIP. UNBELIEVABLE. I SELECTED THIS CAMERA FOR THE OVERALL SIZE, WEIGHT AND LCD SIZE. I HAVE LITERALLY TAKEN THOUSANDS OF IMAGES--THE RELIABILITY AND QUALITY CAN'T BE BEAT. I TEAMED THE CAMERA & SOFTWARE WITH A NEW CANON MP530 COPIER. BOTH ARE EXEMPLARY.

This product was a VERY BIG DIAPPOINTMnet. For a listing price of almost $100 I expected it to come with a built in, adjustable light source that could be controled. It did not. It is just a grooved black plastic tube with a plastic silde holder (that sticks) and a cheap opaque light filter. Total worth maybe $12.95.

This product was purchased from 47th Street. It performed as detailed. The clarity of the picture became an issue with my Canon S5IS but only on occasion. More operator error than the product. I processed approx. 500 slides. They recommend a tripod. I concur as it makes the job somewhat easier. I now have them all digitized and am pleased with this product.

Customer Review: Another great Canon PowerShot
First of all, I've owned several Canon PowerShots, way back to the S10 when memory cards were like $50 for 32 megs. Except for one, the SD450, the image quality has been excellent on all of them. Canon's are known for their image quality and this one holds true to that. The downside to all the PowerShots prior to this one has been how awfully slow they were in taking shots, especially in low light or at night. The delay from the time you push the button to the camera actually snapping the shot could be excruciatingly slow and infuriating. I absolutely loved my S400 in every way except for how freaking slow it was in snapping shots. I couldn't tell you how many shots I have of my dog's butt/tail because I didn't properly point the camera 10 feet in front of her and take the shot just right to account for that horrible delay. Finally, a Canon PowerShot that is quick! There are some shots that aren't quite lightning fast in lower light, but this is expected and the performance is FAR better than any other Canon I've owned. The SD450 had decent performance, but the picture quality was subpar. Another problem I've always had is poor battery life. This one can take about 200 shots before needing to be recharged. Compared to my last camera (the SD450), that's about 3 times as many shots. So the battery life is much improved. On a side note, another problem I've had which most ppl would probably not notice is a few dead pixels showing up over time. Canon seems to have fixed that in the last couple generation of PowerShots and it isn't an issue with this one. I like the fact that it has no viewfinder, who uses that thing anyway? The screen is huge but the resolution is not any better than my old S400 with a tiny 1.8" screen so all shots look kind of fuzzy. I very rarely have a shot out of focus with this camera so I don't worry about it. Besides, regardless of screen size or resolution it is going to be really hard to tell if a shot is a little bit out of focus and you'd have to zoom in to tell anyway. All in all, this is a great camera and the best PowerShot I've owned to date. I'm extremely happy with in and plan to keep it for a long time.

This is my everyday camera. It is easy to configure and fits nicely in my pocket. Canon sensors provide phenomenal clarity in all lighting conditions. I also own and love my Nikon D40, but this Canon is my go anywhere, convenient, light-weight workhorse. This is my second digital elph and I will continue to purchase Canons in the point-and-shoot form factor. The lack of a viewfinder should not be a concern for anyone considering this camera. The LCD is highly detailed and very large. Looking through a viewfinder almost seems alien to me now. I love being able to compose a shot without having the camera glued to my face. Being able to see what is happening through my eyes rather than a viewfinder, while positioning the camera is a beautiful thing.

I have already posted some photos on Flickr and have received some pretty positive reviews. Why I like the camera for travel because: 1. It uses AA batteries, I use rechargables. 2. The camera has a view finder which is very helpful when you are outside with the sun behind you. 3. Technology is very advanced. Does a great job finding faces and managing focus. 4. Tripod mount. 5. And I think the best price on the market for the technology and megs (10mps). 6. It's easy moving the photos to the computer.

Customer Review: Don't count on using your other printer paper..
The printer itself prints good photos. The biggest drawback is you have to buy the Canon replacement cartridge which comes with paper. I already have paper but I can't use it because I have no options other than to buy the way they pack. There needs to be an alternative to buy just the cartridge. I would think about it before I bought it - if you already have photo paper.

I purchased the The Opteka .35x HD² Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for my Canon PowerShot S5 camera and would like to share my experience: Pros: (1) it is functional with the Canon PowerShot S5 camera. (2) its contruction is excellent: it has weight, and is made from metal. (3) package includes a sturdy case and a lens adaptor. Cons: (1) lens adaptor fits losely, due to the weight of the lens, there is a feeling lens will fall off. (2) unsharpness (especially edges of pictures). (3) focusing difficult and off especially when using the macro lens only; the super macro feature of the canon PowwerShot is better. Overall; not a great buy, hence the 3 stars.

This is my sixth Canon PowerShot, although they have a few downfalls they are the perfect camera for my/our life style. The PowerShot line of cameras fit in a pocket allowing them to be easily carried while riding motorcycles and ATVs (try doing that with some of the other point and shoot cameras or with an SLR camera). Now as for the camera itself: Battery life is excellent. LCD screen good size. View finder--other camera manufactures should consider using one. Memory cards: the SD cards are a dime a dozen, the problem is finding the high volume MMC cards which are better and faster. Shutter lag, what can I say almost all point and shoot cameras have this problem with the exception of the Powershoot 600. The IS is great. Zoom, although the digital zoom has increased in quality over the past few years, Canon may want to consider increasing the optical zoom a little bit more. Would I buy another PowerShot? You bet I will.

It comes with digital image stabilizer. This camera is good to be used in dark places, because the picture will look brighter. The only cons is if the pictures were taken in bright area, the pictures look a little bit dark. Everything else is good and worth the money.

Affter much searching, I was worried that this slim version camera case would be too small for my Canon Powershot IS 870 but it fits perfectly. I especially like that it has the netting inside for things such as an extra SD card or a lens cleaning cloth. I also think the velcro strap is a nice feature although I do make sure to face the screen downward to ease my fear of the velcro scratching the screen.

I purchased this camera a year ago prior to a big vacation and couldn't be happier. I never have any fuzzy pictures thanks to image stabilization. Also, there are plenty of settings for use in different environments such as snow, city lights at night, children running outside, etc. It's simple to use and works with existing photo software on my computer so I didn't even bother learning to use what came with the camera (although that looks simple to use, also). My only complaint is that the screen is difficult to see when outside in bright light, but that's typical of all digital cameras I've used. I also take pictures for the elementary school where I teach and I prefer this to the school's camera.

This has all the basic features and its working perfectly well. I have used it and the picture quality is very good. Considering the cost, its an excellent product. Only problem, the same that I have read in the reviews while buying the product, is that it takes some times for the flash to load after taking a picture, say about 4 seconds. If you dont think this is a problem for you, this camera is the best.

Customer Review: I LOVE MY NEW SX10IS CAMERA!
I couldn't make up my mind what type of camera I wanted to purchase; an SLR or a point and shoot. I knew what features I wanted, but up until recently I couldn't find a camera fitting all my needs. I decided that for my purposes of taking travel pictures I wanted something easy to use, but an upgrade to my present camera, a Canon PowerShot A610. I really liked the shape of the camera, which is easy to hold with one hand. Then one of the best features was vari-angle LCD. After searching different cameras I was thrilled when I found the SX10IS which had most if not all the features I had been looking for. I wanted at least 18x optical zoom and this has 20x; I definitely wanted the vari-angle LCD for taking pictures either higher or lower than a comfortable viewing level. (It sure saves on backs when wanting to take a close up of a flower and you can turn the viewer up and hold the camera down at arms length to get a great picture). It also has the easy grip like my older camera, however I find there are more buttons that I sometimes push inadvertantly, and get out of the mode that I want to be in. As I get more used to the camera I don't mess up as often. The pictures come out crystal clear and I can zoom in when viewing on my computer and still get great pixel clarity. The finished photos I have had processed have come out close to studio quality. Recently I took portraits of guests at our Christmas party and had rave reviews of the finished product with many ordering additional prints to send to family and friends. Also, I was extremely pleased when taking photos at the Tournament of Roses parade last week. Most electonic gadgets have more features on them then one will ever use, and this camera is no exception. Slowly, I am trying to learn more to take advantage of more features. On the other hand, if you want ease of use then with this camera you can be out taking pictures as soon as you put in your batteries and memory card. Speaking of memory cards, you will want to buy a high speed card to take advantage of the continuous shoot feature. This is great when taking pictures of moving objects. Another feature I haven't mentioned is the great video (with sound) that you can take with this camera. Having a high capacity memory SD card helps. I always carry extra cards, but with my new 8 GB card I won't be using the extra cards very often. Face recognition is another feature I haven't used before. It is an interesting feature and new tool when taking group shots. I could go on and on, there are so many good things I could say about this camera. I really don't have any negatives other than accidentally pushing buttons when I don't want to. As I had read in another review, the controls are "touchy" and you have to be aware of where your "fat fingers" land. I'm a senior citizen who loves to take pictures and have thousands of photos on my computer. I enjoy viewing slide shows of all the pictures of our travels throughout the USA and also abroad. If you want to take a step up from the compact point and shoot then I would highly recommend the Canon PowerShot SX10IS. It has features you will appreciate for taking photos both indoors and out.

Customer Review: Excellent Screen Protector
After my recent purchase of the Canon G10, i found myself wanting to protect the 3.0" LCD screen. The screen protector is perfectly sized for the LCD screen. Application of the product is as was expected. No sprays, no sticky residue. Simply peel off cover 1, apply the protector to the screen, then remove the second cover. The cloth provided did leave tiny traces of reside on the LCD, but with patience and a careful eye (and proper lighting) you can get the screen particle free. The provided applicator card helped smooth out the edges and removed any bubbles. This protector is also washable and reuseable. I doubt i'll ever have to take it off, but its a great feature. I am very happy with my purchase. It is pricier than the eBay products, but this one i trust. I hear from friends that use cheap screen protectors (12 pack for $3) and that they keep falling off. Only time will tell how durable this screen protector is. So far the adhesiveness remains at its prime, 2 thumbs up. I would recommend that Boxwave offer a type of dust/particle remover that is in a sticky tape form. You would find exactly what im talking about packaged with the screen protectors sold at the apple store for the iphones. Those are by far the best at removing dust/particles in a normal setting. most cameras need a Fat 16 formated drive. All 4 GB drives come (IBM or Hitachi or labels) come formated FAT32 so given that fact , most cameras will fail. If yours works , skip this review, ok? However you can reformat it. What's worse, there at 2 types of drives. Hitachi says white label is REAL-IDE interface only ( computer , Ipod, MP3 unit, etc) and that blue label is: CF+ Camera Microdrive so if you have a white lable , chances are, It will never work with a camera. To be sure, check the model number on your drive againt the Hitachi online specifications to be sure. To fix FAT32 , get a USB to FC/MD Memory reader device. find Windows XP pro, Home stinks , find the real thing. Go to control panel + admin..tools +computer.managment + disk management. recommend looking before and after pluging in your microdrive so you will recognize it when plugged in. find it and right click , delete partition. ( be dang careful here) now, right click it again, and creat a new partition of 2gb. when that is done format it to FAT16. ( some times called FAT) you lost 2gb, but that ok, as many cams have a limit of 2gb, but not all. set the partition to whatever you camera manaual allows. the above assume you are not in some recovery mode. For that you need special software and $40

This adapter fits over the Canon A640 lense and is long enough for the lense to be fully extended for zoom--this was an important concern for me before purchasing. This works fine for use with a wide angle or telephoto lense in combination with filters. When used with a wide angle lense and a polarizer filter, it gives a "porthole" effect in the image, but zoomed in further, this effect disappears. Similarly, a telephoto shot not fully zoomed shows this porthole effect.

Customer Review: Great Camera
The camera itself is very good. It takes great pictures and has an impressive 10X optical zoom. On the other hand I will NOT recommend the 'Deluxe Accessory Kit'. It has a lot of items that are unnecessary and some of them I already owned. The camera bag looks cheap as the other accessories. Next time I will stay away from these kits and buy the stuff I need separately.

Great camera over all. Not so good for taking fast-action pictures. Stills and movies are easy though. LCD screen protectors come off the first time you try to put the camera in the case. Those were a joke. Altogether a good value.
